About

More than a calendar of events, Der Zunenshtral features original essays, translations from the region’s rich Yiddish archives, and contemporary Yiddish cultural content presented in accessible, popular formats. From music and art to storytelling and scholarship, the newsletter aims to inspire both long-time lovers of Yiddish and new generations discovering the language for the first time.

Masthead

The masthead of Der Zunenshtral pays homage to the golden age of Yiddish journalism, its design echoes the intricate, often whimsical logos of historic Yiddish dailies, serving as a visual bridge between the legacy of those publications and the vibrant revival unfolding today.

The image was influenced by Die Brücke (The Bridge), a German art movement that helped to popularize the linocut as well as mastheads like that of Haynt (Today) and Der Groyser Kundes (The Big Stick).

The masthead was designed by Aaron Castillo-White.
